I started out online as an affiliate marketer… and did well for myself. But there comes a point in your business when you need to take things to the next level. That usually means building your own products and your own brand.
It’s a good idea to start small and build your way up, and a great place to start is writing a report or an ebook.
Reports don’t have to be long at all; they can even be only a few pages. One of the first reports that I wrote (which I still give out today) was about the different tools and services I used in my online business. It’s a great report that offers a lot of great insights, and it’s only about 6 pages long.
When considering what report or ebook you could write, think about what value you can give to your market. What is it that they need? What knowledge or resources do you have access to that you can share with them?
When you’re ready to begin, all you need to create your report or ebook is:
- A word processor
- An ecover
The word processor that I like to use (and it’s totally free) is Google Docs. You can access it here on Google Drive.
There are a few very good reasons I like to use Google Drive:
- Google backs up my work
- I can share it with anyone and allow different permissions, e.g. modify or read
- I can access my documents from ANY Internet enabled device
- There is a built-in PDF creator
- It’s compatible with Microsoft Word and other word processors
- I can upload or download documents anytime I want
After you’ve created your report or ebook, the next step is to have an ecover created for it. There’s two ways you can go about this:
a. Create your own ecover using an image editor. If you choose to do it yourself, you can use a free image editor called GIMP, or you can use Photoshop if you have it.
b. Outsource it to someone else. A good place to do this is Fiverr.com. There are literally hundreds of people that will create an ecover for you for just $5!
Now that you’ve created your own report or ebook, you have graduated from a simple affiliate to the high status of author. Congratulations! This is a BIG step.
And let me warn you… it’s hard to stop there 🙂
But before we get ahead of ourselves, I’ll ask you the question, “What do you do with your report?”
You have a few options. One thing you can do is give it away as an incentive for someone to opt in to your email list. If you’re giving your report or ebook away, make sure you include affiliate links within your content so that it is monetized. You can also do this even if you are selling the report or ebook.
Another option is to publish your content on Kindle. Doing this will upgrade your author status and give you an extra income and lead generation stream.
You can also sell your report or ebook on Clickbank. If it converts well, it will attract affiliates which means more income for you and more free leads into your business.
So you can see that taking the time to do a simple thing as writing a report or ebook can have a BIG impact on your online business.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed about creating your own content then just take a second to calm down and consider this… you only need to spend 15 minutes a day doing this and it will happen for you.
