Setting Realistic Goals

Don’t rush to achieve success. Success is a process.

Before you begin doing anything in your business… you need to get into the right mindset.

You also need to have a balance of goals. Don’t make your goals just about money. Have goals for your health, relationships, education and spirituality also.

Your goals must be realistic and emotional for you. Instead of thinking about money, think about what you will be able to do with that money and the financial freedom it will bring you.

For some of you, spending time with your family is what you want and are passionate about. For others it might be the opportunity to travel. For others it may be getting out of debt or buying your dream home or car.

Write down your goals. Have a 5 year plan and break it down until you have daily tasks to do. Keep a daily to do list and follow it.

But don’t overbook yourself. Make sure you leave enough time in the day for all the unexpected events that come up in life.

Read your goals every morning.

Remember, it is not your online business that you’re passionate about… your online business is simply a vehicle that you are using to give you what it is you really want.

Setting Realistic GoalsIt was back in early 2005 when I made the decision to replace my job with a passive income business. After two and a half years of researching and trying different strategies (like MLM)…

I finally made my first $1.09 in profits with affiliate marketing!

The day I made my first $1.09 profit online I made a commitment to myself… that by my next birthday (5 months away) I would quit my day job.

I made a plan of action and worked hard. 8 months later I’d reached my goal.

The example of Thomas Edison has been an example to me. After 1,000 attempts, Edison still hadn’t created a successful light bulb. When asked about his apparent failure, he made a comment to this effect…

“I didn’t fail 1,000 times. I found 1,000 ways how not to create a light bulb.”

Shortly afterwards he was successful and reaped the rewards of his effort and persistence.

There’s no one that has ever achieved something worthwhile… who never first set a specific goal and then worked hard at it until it was achieved!

What goals have you set and achieved? Leave a comment below.

  1. Another great post John 🙂

Think you hit on the nail just right, I think many people don’t put the emotion behind the goals, and they don’t think of, like you said, the end result, not the goal itself. Just like the law of attraction and related subjects, it’s the emotion that puts the power into what your trying to do.

My problem is, I don’t repeat my goals enough. I don’t re-write them enough. Sure I am not the only one. But that will change for the new year!

  2. Hi John,

To have goals is a very good thing but we must be realistic. When they begin, most people fail to create serious, realistic goals. You will create it of course, and you will then make a plan etc. Then you will fail to achieve your goals and then you will change your plan and design other goals etc. That’s the way it is.
In time, you will improve your abilities to set realistic, specific and emotional goals and your plans will be better and better.

This is a nice post about goals and the Why. And I cannot forget the analysis, the help and the encouragement you and your friends gave to me.

Have a Nice, Prosperous and Happy New Year
