One of the personal development books that I read early on in my career was Zig Ziglar‘s ‘Over the Top’. I was fortunate to come by a copy at the local library. Very inspirational.
Over the years, I’ve listened to and re-listened to several of Zig Ziglar’s live talks. He was truly one of the great motivational speakers.
He passed away on November 26th 2012, aged 86.
Zig Ziglar (born Hilary Hinton Ziglar) grew up in Alabama and Mississippi. After serving in the Navy during World War 2, Zig worked for a succession of companies and eventually settled in Dallas, Texas.
In 1974, he published his first book, ‘See You at the Top’. This was a great success and many editions of this book has been printed over the years.
Apart from being a super-successful salesperson and author, Zig also was one of the best motivation speakers the world has ever seen.
As I listened to Zig, what really came across to me was his great enthusiasm, genuineness and practicality. You could tell that he lived by the principles that he taught and that they worked.
The area where Zig really helped me was in setting and achieving goals. Many of the important things I’ve achieved have been through the goal setting principles I learned from Zig.
Even today, I write down my goals every morning and read them again every night.
Another one of Zig’s sayings that has always remained with me, and which I use as a foundation to establish my business upon, is:
“You can have anything in life you want, if you’ll just help enough other people get what they want.”
Zig had a lot of great quotes and excellent books. You can check out Zig Ziglar’s stuff here.
Thank you for giving of yourself Zig.
