Today I made some major changes to my website advertising. In fact, it took up almost my whole day but it was urgent and all of it came about because I track my advertising.
For a while now I had noticed that one of the major products being promoted on my website had not been converting well. A few months back, this particular vendor had released a new product and was encouraging all his affiliates to promote it instead. This I did.
At the beginning, conversions seemed okay but as time went by it became obvious that it was not doing as well. Not only that, my list was also responding less and less to my daily mailouts.
This morning I opted into the landing page for this product (as I have my website visitors do) and found that I wasn’t receiving the free product that was being advertised. This was very upsetting.
It got worse when I discovered that this was the case with the other products that this vendor had on offer!
Straight away I removed all references to the product on my sites and in my emails.
What’s the lesson in all this. TRACK YOUR ADVERTISING! Make sure you track everything you do. If it is converting well, keep on doing it. If not, find out why and change things straight away.
By being proactive in this way, you’ll build up a successful online (or offline) business.
If you don’t already have a tracking solution in place on your site or with products your promoting, consider using Google Analytics (it’s free). There’s also free WordPress plugins that allow you to track links from your blog.
One thing to be careful of when your tracking your advertising is not to act too rashly. Give your advertising the time it needs to provide you with accurate results. Don’t act on small samples. Another thing to be aware of (and I’m totally guilty of this) is to not spend too much time looking at your stats! This can be a big time-waster. Decide how often you are going to review your statistics and leave it at that.
Tracking advertising is a must, for advertiser. Thanks god we are using WordPress that has so many plugins that help that matters.
I have the same opinion, you have to have the contol, nice post.
