Best Free Traffic Sources in 2017

I’ve asked experts all around the world what their best free traffic sources in 2017 are, and I was amazed by some of the responses!

Some very cool free traffic sources I’d never even heard of.

Here’s what they had to say…

Best Free Traffic Sources 2017Favorite Marketing Strategy – Reddit AMA

“One of my favorite marketing strategies is conducting a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything). This is a fantastic way to put a brand directly in front of its target audience.

“It provides people from all over the world the chance to ask direct questions to an expert. This can create the perfect environment for high user engagement that is contextually relevant.

“The best part about it? It’s fun! And it only takes about an hour of your time.

“We did a Reddit AMA a few months ago for our client, The Gantry Restaurant & Bar, where their culinary expert, Executive Chef Joel Bickford, was on hand to answer questions from everyone.

“The user engagement was phenomenal and we were able to get a ton of great exposure. The AMA itself can be found here.”

Free Traffic from Google My Business

“Google My Business is a really important tool that more local businesses should take advantage of.

“Local SEO is getting more competitive each and every day, especially with Google on the verge of implementing paid local ads. One of the main benefits is that It’s free to use, and it gives local businesses a way to manage their online presence by verifying and updating important information.

“It’s critical for helping customers find you easily.

“The best part? When optimized correctly, the page shows up above normal organic search results.

“For those that have invested the time into creating and maintaining a listing, it’s critically important that a business’ web presence reflects the information in that listing. By this I mean directories, citations, review sites and others should have consistent name, phone number, and address information listed.

“If your information is listed inaccurately on a variety of sites, Google will lose trust in your site, and your position in the Local Pack will fall.

“It’s also important to make sure everything is filled in completely. Include a description of your business along with interlinking important keywords. But be careful to avoid keyword stuffing. Just don’t overdo it.

“Another feature that many people miss out on is the ability to add photos of your business’ exterior, interior, team members, logos, and more. The more complete and accurate your listing is, the better chance you have of showing up higher in the local pack.”

The Best Source of Free Traffic in 2017 – Facebook Groups

“Quick tactic that others may not have suggested on how to get free traffic and gain new customers… Facebook GROUPS. Especially local Facebook groups.

“No matter your niche or vertical there is a FB group that you can participate in to contribute to the discussion, answer questions, and develop a presence to refer people to your business, often times when they are looking for exactly what you offer.

“FB just also launched a dedicated mobile app to support their groups’ communities so now it’s easier than ever to manage the groups that you participate in, monitor the conversations, and participate while on the go throughout your day.

“We have found this tactic to be very effective for our marketplace. We monitor local groups and neighborhoods’ groups , and when anyone is asking for a recommendation on a lawn care service, we kindly let them know about the GreenPal community.

“We track the success and 60% of the time we make a recommendation, they signup for our service. This tactic can work for almost any business in any niche.”

Bryan Clayton, CEO of GreenPal, which is best described as Uber for Lawn Care

“One of the easiest ways that I generate qualified free traffic is by sharing information in Facebook group discussion comments.

“There’s typically a thread (especially if it is a popular one), which will notify people that have responded to the comment and it will also be shared in the Facebook group network. I find that it provides a nice ‘bump’ in qualified traffic and leads.”

StumbleUpon – A Beautiful Tool Neglected by Many Digital Marketers

“I am the manager at Marquis Gardens, the largest Water Features and Pond Supplies Retailer in Toronto area. We are often using StumbleUpon, which in my opinion is neglected by many digital marketers.

“It is beautiful instrument to put all and every of your blog posts and pieces of content in front of new people, who is interested in what is you are writing about.

“It generates reasonable exposure to targeted audience for free. And if your content is engaging it has a chance to get viral.

“If free use haven’t brought expected results, StumbleUpon has service called Paid Discovery, where you can include your content in Stumbler’s feed for a very reasonable price (often 10-15c per view).

“The best part is that you don’t need to have an advertising. Your site/blog/content is an advertising itself because while using Stumble users just jump between different websites, but also can stick to one of them to browse more. All of it is recorded in Google Analytics as social traffic through your website.”

  1. I love the tutorial here. I especially love that you have pointed out facebook groups. alot of people are too tuned into seo and not enough on social media marketing. As always John, I love the content.

  2. This is a good reminder of what I could get back into for some free exposure.

I use FB ads now, but sometimes it gets crazy. Do you use the other social platforms?

    1. Thanks David!

Besides Facebooks Ads, I have tried LinkedIn ads briefly but wasn’t impressed with their Text Ads. Their Newsfeed Ads may work well… I’d like to give them a go.

Haven’t tried any other social network ad platforms.
