When I first tell people, that are just starting out online, that they should work on creating their own products…
They’re stunned!!
A common objection I get is…
“But I’m not an expert!”
I go on to explain to them that if everyone had that attitude, there would never be ANY experts.
Even ‘experts’ have to start somewhere.
Everyone has something to offer, yes, even YOU! You don’t need to be an expert on a topic to create a product, you can learn as you go.
This process will MAKE you an expert… and that’s how it works 🙂
I remember listening to Brian Tracy, leading business strategist and wealth coach, talk about this very principle…
As he gained popularity for his results in business and his training material, he was approached one day by Nightingale-Conant, world leaders in personal development products.
They asked Brian to create a course the subject of time management. Brian felt inadequate to the task but accepted the challenge anyway!
He said that he began by writing down everything he knew about time management.
It wasn’t nearly enough!
What he did next was to go out and get all the best books and audio courses on the subject. He studied them all and eventually was able to come up with the product that Nightingale-Conant had asked for.
There’s something that we can all learn from Brian’s attitude.
Types of products you can easily create are:
- Ebooks
- Audio programs
- Video training
- Coaching packages
- One-on-one consulting
- And live events.
Don’t think you can create your own product or don’t have the time?
Simply spend 15 minutes a day on this task and you’ll be surprised just how far you will go!
By creating your own product, you instantly gain credibility and authority.
It’s not something you have to rush into, but it is something you want to work towards as soon as possible.
Let me share with you another story that illustrates the point that you don’t have to be an expert…
… and that you don’t even have to see the end from the beginning to get started.
If you weren’t familiar with Brian Tracy, I’m sure you’ll know this man…
Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft.
At the age of 20, Bill was dropping in and out of Harvard.
One day while checking out an electronics magazine, he saw an Altair (early computer system)…
…and got the idea that creating software for this computer would be a good business opportunity.
Then he did something really gutsy…
He called up Altair and said, “Hey, I’ve got some software that will run on your hardware.”
What’s so gutsy about that?
He hadn’t written the software yet!
Anyway, when the guys at Altair agreed to meet up with Bill and his business partner. The two scrambled to get the code ready…
…Which was finalized while flying on the way to the meeting!
And the amazing part is…
When they ran the software on the Altair it worked!
And the rest is history.
You don’t need to be an expert to start creating your own products. Start making plans today for the products that you will create for your business.
