Youtube Traffic?
April 6, 2010One of the best sources of free, targeted traffic on the internet today is without doubt Youtube traffic. If you take a quick look on Youtube you’ll see that many videos get tens and even hundreds of millions of views!
The question is, how can you convert this into traffic to your website?
Here’s a couple of ways:
1. Website link in the description.
When you upload a video to Youtube, you have the option to write up a description of what your video is about. If you put a website url in this field, it will show up as a clickable link next to your video whenever someone watches it (see picture below).
To have a higher click-through rate, I recommend that you put the website url first and then a short ‘sales pitch’ next to it. The sales pitch should be based on the biggest benefit your site will offer the visitor.
2. Brand the video with your website url.
This takes a little more technical know-how but if you can, brand your video with your website url (see picture below). There’s a couple of reasons why you want to do this:
i) Sometimes visitors won’t notice your website link in the description.
ii) If someone decides to place your Youtube video on their site, your description won’t be visible.
Because Youtube membership is free and you can upload an unlimited amount of videos, the opportunities for free, targeted Youtube traffic are limitless!
Imagine you uploaded a video on Youtube and it got 1 million views. Let’s go on further to conservatively say that only 5% of all viewers went to your website. That’s 50,000 viewers to your site!
Now, you may be thinking “1 million views! I don’t think that will happen to any of my videos!”
You’ll be surprised just how many videos get that many views on Youtube. There’s tons of them. How many emails do you get from your friends sharing a video on Youtube? And that’s a good tip for you… when you’ve uploaded a new video, tell all your friends about it.
Youtube traffic is there for the taking. Grab your lion’s share right now.

You gave some very helpful tips here on getting traffic from YouTube. Could you explain how to install the website link to the actual video?

Hi Mike,
The way I add the website url to the video itself is with Camtasia. Unfortunately, it’s not a free product but you can purchase it here: http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp
Hey Mike Maggs, I think there’s a tutorial on that on YouTube itself. Anyway, thanks for writing about YouTube traffic John, a lot of people seem to forget about adding their website url to the description!
Imagining getting 1 million views is one thing, but actually getting there is another. I’m sure more people try than succeed.. but heck, it sure is possible. Just think of a really cool or funny vid, shoot it, edit it, upload it and you’re there.
I agree with this. Most internet marketing now, used videos to sell and expose their sites products. Most people are now youtube fanatic, even i, from one site to another link site, it’s easy to expand and getting a lots of points.
