I agree, it’s nice classroom atmosphere and you make very good points. Yes, you have to pick a popular keyword, but not too popular to have million websites or more of competition. The more competition you have, the harder it will be for you to get to the top. Therefore some people prefer to take less popular keywords but with small competition. It may be more workable strategy at first.
