I would keep away from registering any domains with a company name in it, e.g. rainbowcrayonsinfo.org. Something generic like crayonsreview.com is fine.

It’s best not to use brand names in your url. The brand name owner may have legal rights to take the domain off you (especially if it is trademarked)… which would be a pain if you’ve put a lot of hard work into it.

I came across your blog a couple of days ago and have reading all your posts and articles with great interest. I am pretty new to affiliate marketing and would like clarification on an issue. I have heard using product names as domain names results in easier ranking but is it legal to do so. Say I am promoting an Amazon product, is it okay to use a product name in a domain name or does Amazon object to such use of product names. Consider I am promoting a product Rainbow Crayons can i use a domain named rainbow crayonsreview.com or rainbowcrayonsinfo.org? Is there any trademark or copyright violation in such case? I would greatly appreciate your advice

It is an interesting point John; I think a lot of new marketers become very caught up in the problems of domain names. I think the best advice, is to keep it relevant; easy to spell; easy to remember and without plurals – because people like me always forget the additional ‘s’.
